Believe it or not, there was a time where I had written off denim as a boring, unnecessary part of my wardrobe. I think it occurred right around the time that my love of fashion started to grow when I began looking at blogs and reading fashion magazines religiously. I wanted my wardrobe to be exciting and thrilling, and I didn’t think denim had a place in my world. About a year about I started working at TBD at Nordstrom: the go-to spot for premium denim. A free pair here a sale-pair-plus-my-discount there and my thoughts about this staple changed. As you can see since I’m wearing it head to toe. Yes, denim is a wardrobe necessity but that doesn’t mean it has to be boring. I realized it wasn’t the pants but the wearer that was boring (aka me). I wasn’t trying hard enough to give my denim life. And, honestly I was buying overly basic pairs that didn’t mesh with my personality. And now, I can’t get enough denim. And, of course, I’d like all AG and Paige please and thank you. My wallet, on the other hand, disagrees. There’s so much excitement that lies in each piece of denim, and I’ve learned its up to me to find that thrill and make an outfit based around denim special and unique. And with this blue hue on the runways inspiring brands to up their denim game, I no longer shudder at the thought of wearing jeans. Rather, I’m embracing the frays, flares and frumpiness (mom jeans, boyfriends jeans, and awkward lengths, of course) that denim looks to this season and the next. Today’s looks embraces one thing I once loathed from head-to-toe, teaching me to never say never when it comes to fashion. Or life for that matter. It’s all about how you look at things and how you make them work. So, move over Justin, there’s a new Canadian Tuxedo in town.
