Baby, No Surrender

I spent Sunday night and the wee hours of Monday morning waiting in line to see one of my favorite musicians and probably people for that matter, Bruce Springsteen. I cozied up on Third Street in Los Angeles at 10 PM with my fiancé, Estevan, near the grove with a blanket in hand and chunky sweater ready for the night ahead of me. Okay, I wasn’t so ready. I thought a couple hours of sleep mixed with adrenaline would be all I needed to get through the day. But then ridiculousness happened. I was all set up atop a bed of grass and some bugs (if I don’t think about it, they’re not there, right??). As 2 AM rolled around, I heard faint shouts and saw sprinklers flare up. Luckily we moved fast enough to not get wet, but my makeshift bed was now covered in water and the rest of our time would be spent on the curb of 3rd street. The hours passed watching the cars drive by, listening to Bruce stories told by the other fans, and getting to know the people we’d come to spend 14 hours with. At 3:30am it was time for the line to move. And by move actually just meant walk a couple block and sit there for another couple hours in anticipation of what the hell was going on wondering if we were in the count of the 1100 that would get to meet the boss. A couple people ahead of us and we heard an official count – 514! We had made it in! Wrist bands were passed out and then we waited another couple of hours for everything to really get moving. Finally inside Barnes & Noble at 9 AM, we waited in another line (shocker) until the ball got rolling at 11 AM. Estevan and I had been planning what to say all night. Invite him to the wedding. Better yet, ask him to play! Tell him our first dance will be to one of his songs. All great, personable ideas revealing our love for the boss. As the moment approached it went by so fast! I couldn’t find the time to collect my thoughts and I was busying watching my bae fan boy over him and I loved every second of it. I told Bruce we came as a duo as we took our picture and on the way out he called me darling. Call us crazy, but the sleeplessness, sprinklers, and spiders was worth every short second we got to spend with The Boss. There was No Surrender there won’t be. Writing this I am reminded of the inspiration I get from Springsteen’s lyrics. Wether it’s about influencing the relationships I make with people or the drive the lyrics give me to do what I love, “no retreat, baby, no surrender.”

Today’s look is synonymous with how tired I am from the event. Dirty hair, a t-shirt dress, and booties was really the best I could do.
