The holidays are filled with presents under the tree, Christmas carols, and twinkle lights galore. Despite all the cheer, laughter, and merriment that come with the holiday season they can also be a bit stressful, if you let them. Between traveling and dishing out money for all those gifts, there is a lot that might get in the way of that holiday season cheer. So I say don’t let them! Remember the reason for the season, stay focused on giving to those less fortunate than you, and smile. If that doesn’t come so naturally, try these 5 ways to relieve some stress during the holidays since they’re really only right around the corner.

1.Exercise
Get those endorphins flowing and let some of that stress sweat out. Even if you only have 20, minutes make the most of it. Go for a walk, lift some weights, or do a quick yoga sequence. I’m personally obsessed with cardio kickboxing right now. Here is one of my favorite quick workouts! Working out is not one of my fave thing to do, but I love how I feel afterwards! So ignore and negative feelings you have about exercising and just do it!

2. Adopt a Family and Make It a Party
My friends and I are doing this as a group this year! We’ve adopted three children from an Orphanage in Mexico to sponsor this holiday season. We’re buying them necessities like clothes and extras like games. Then I’m hosting everyone at my home to wrap the gifts, give thanks for all the blessings we have in our lives, and of course, enjoy a festive drink or two. This is our first year doing this and it certainly won’t be our last. It’s also a great way to get everyone together for the holidays not just to catch up but to do something with others in mind.
3. Pay It Forward
Buy a coffee for the lady or gent behind you in the Starbucks line. Something small like that always makes me feel good even if I’m not having the best day.
4. Volunteer
If you have a little extra time, get involved in your community, at your church or at the the local YMCA. Giving of your time to those in need is one of the best ways to give. Sometimes your presence is so much more than your presents (wink wink).
5. Sing!!
Ok so this one might be a little random, but for me, belting out a song in the bath or while driving down the freeway can improve my mood in seconds. You don’t have to be Adele to hit those high notes and rock out! So grab a friend or your fiancé, push the medal to the metal, and turn the volume on high. Might I suggest Santa Claus is Coming to Town – Bruce Springsteen style?
